Hiring Soon! Seasonal Fisheries Technician / Drone Assistants

About the project:

BBRSDA was awarded a $70,000 Seafood Industry Climate Award grant from the Acme Smoked Fish Foundation to pilot an innovative sustainability project using drone imagery to monitor salmon escapement on the Wood River. In partnership with the University of Washington Fisheries Research Institute, Project Kiwi, and local operators, the project will test faster, more efficient methods for counting and tracking salmon populations—potentially delivering data up to 24 hours earlier than traditional approaches while reducing costs and carbon impact. The project also supports Bristol Bay workforce development through local internships and will share findings with fishermen, researchers, and regional partners to strengthen long-term fishery sustainability.
