You may recall an article in our last newsletter that described a 2009 project that was primarily funded by the BBRSDA, and carried out in Egegik by Digital Observer, Inc. That project - led by former Bay fisherman Mark Buckley - combined fishing and handling protocols, tagging, and quality "report cards" for participating fishermen. Specifying cause-and-effect links between specific fishing and handling practices, and quality at the grading table, the study has attracted a good deal of attention among fishermen and processors alike; and it serves as a springboard for a grant application recently submitted to NOAA by the BBRSDA.
Mark presented an interesting overview of the study's background, methodologies and preliminary findings to BBRSDA members at our November meeting during Pacific Marine Expo. Those of you who missed that may be interested in viewing a video version. You can find that here, in three parts.
