Bristol Bay drifters Ben Blakey and John Fairbanks met with Governor Jay Inslee of Washington on June 1st. The mission of the meeting was to educate the governor on the wide-ranging economic benefits that our fishery has on the economy of Washington – and indeed on all West Coast states.  Having delivered their personal stories about Bristol Bay as well as the recent BBRSDA-funded economic report that defines our fishery’s $1.5B in annual economic impacts, Ben and John were happy to report “Mission Accomplished.” Governor Inslee listened with interest and requested additional information about the impacts of the Pebble Mine.
